May 1, Update on Bridgewater-Raynham Superintendent Search

I would like to offer special thanks to the twelve members of the Superintendent Search Committee.  Search Committee members consisted of School Committee representative and Search Committee Chair Patricia Riley.  The other members are: Bruce Langlan, retired educator and current treasurer of the Friends of B-R Athletics; Shawn Masefield, parent and member of the Citizens for Better Bridgewater; Linda McCann, parent and retired teacher and principal; Mary Ann McKinnon, parent and Bridgewater State College Asst. Dean of the School of Education; Donna Paolini, Bridgewater-Raynham Director of Curriculum/Grants; Kathleen Gallagher Perry, parent and Taunton Middle School teacher; David Patrick, Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School teacher and a member of the Berkley School Committee; David Thomson, Raynham Middle School Principal; Peter Wyman, parent and Ocean Spray Vice President of Domestic Sales; Gay Yelle, Bridgewater-Raynham Director of Pupil Personnel Services; and Richard Zusman, retired educator and current CEO of Assessment and Evaluation Concepts, an educational consulting firm.
After concluding the third interview on Tuesday evening, the B-R School Committee briefly met with our consultants for them to once again review the process we should take to move forward with our selection process.  Upon coming back into open session, there was some discussion of what our ideal Superintendent would have as qualities.  Our Superintendent Search brochure documented the five “Desirable Leadership Qualities”:
(1) Ability to present school financial information to the public in a manner that engenders an understanding of the needs and financial condition of the district.
(2) Demonstrated ability to improve and enhance K-12 curriculum and instruction.
(3) Ability to provide the vision and energy to promote new initiatives.
(4) Proven ability to remain focused on district goals while managing difficult situations.
(5) Proven communication skills that foster positive relationships with the staff, community leaders and the press.

The vote of the B-R School Committee was to schedule visits to gain further insight into how the individual meets our “Desirable Leadership Qualities” for two candidates.  The two selected are: Ann Bradshaw, current superintendent of the Mashpee Public School District; Jacqueline Forbes, current superintendent for the East Providence, R.I., School Department.
Site visits will take place over the coming days.  The full B-R School Committee will meet on Monday May 12th to make a decision on the choice for next Superintendent.  Choice subject to reaching contract terms with the individual.
