| February 20, MA House Speaker Sal Dimasi releases 'guidelines' for Balalanced Budget The following Powerpoint presentation {click here to download a copy} provides a summary overview of the current thinking by MA House Leadership in regards to the FY2009 MA Budget. The Governor's budget, as shown in the slideshow, detailed areas to raise $1.4B to close the gap in revenue & expense. This House summary, shows $1.302B in adjustments to also bridge the gap. Notable in the House proposal is the exclusion of casino revenue but inclusion of increased cigarette taxes and suspension of this year's contribution to Stabilization Fund.. The stated goal of the House Proposal is to maintain Local Aid and Chapter 70 aid (as 'promised' by the Governor), while preserving fiscal responsibility. |
