February 19, Budgets for Bridgewater-Raynham

At this time of year, there are many questions about the B-R Schools budget – when will it be released, what will the number be, can an estimate be released?
The preliminary budget, as prepared by the B-R Administrative Team, will be released on Wednesday February 27th – at the B-R School Committee Meeting.  The final budget will be part of the meeting on March 26th – a Public Hearing, and then the setting of the budget by vote of the School Committee.
Interestingly, in the fall of 2006, two separate Committees released 3-year budget plans.  For each group working independently, this was the conclusion of many months of research, calculation and work.  The Bridgewater Board of Selectmen commissioned a Committee to put together detailed and summary information for the fiscal years 2007 (year report created), 2008 (current year now) and 2009 (next fiscal year).  The Bridgewater-Raynham School Committee also put together a 3-year budget plan for the same years.
For fiscal year 2008 (the current year now), the Selectmen’s Committee estimated that the B-R assessment to Bridgewater would be $19,128,125.  B-R’s early estimate was $19,135,112.  In actuality, the fy2008 assessment is $19,498,849.  Both estimates were within two percent of the actual amount.
For fiscal year 2009 (next year), the Selectmen’s Committee estimated that the B-R assessment to Bridgewater would be $20,849,656.  B-R’s early estimate was $21,157,825.
While the final numbers are not ready for release, both forecasts are very close to one another, and could serve as a placeholder for anyone looking to calculate Bridgewater’s finances for fy2009.
