February 13, Comments on turnover within the Bridgewater-Raynham School Board

Perhaps a little history first...  Many may not remember, but I campaigned for Gordon's challenger back in 2004; I was concerned about what issues Gordon would bring to the table if elected.  Well, Gordon won his election over Bill Nickerson.
   Over the past few years, Gordon and I have worked closely on budgets, negotiations and numerous other committees.  I must say that I am impressed by the diplomatic and statesman-like way he approaches his role on the School Committee: very similar to the overall approach by every other Raynham official I have worked with also.
   Board members serve for a time and then leave their roles.  In many ways this is a healthy process, with the new individuals bringing new perspectives and approaches.  However, the loss of experienced individuals like Don Delutis and Fred Kern (and perhaps Gordon) does effect the Committee.  It takes time for individuals to fully grasp the legal responsibilities of the Committee, the finances, and the public exchanges.
   This year, as it has been for the past years, will be a difficult budget year.  It is the role we all campaigned to be elected to, so I have every confidence that we will work through the struggles to present budgets and information to the communities.
   As these individuals step back from their public service, I wish them well, as should the communities.  They have each given their time and energy to improve the educational oppurtunities for B-R students.
   {Note: after this was written in response to a question from the press about Don & Fred leaving and specifically my thoughts on Gordon and his contribution to the B-R Board, Gordon announced his intention to seek re-election to the Bridgewater-Raynham School Board.}
