| February 7, Bridgewater-Raynham rates of student retention from Grade 8 to Grade 9 Someone asked me recently about the number of students who leave the school district after 8th grade and do not become B-R 9th graders. I pulled together data fro the Dept of Ed into a spreadsheet. {click here for the spreadsheet data} I also assembled the data into a graph which is depicted below. {click here for larger image of graph} While throughout the 1990's the annual rate was always between 80 and 90 percent, 2001 began five consecutive years (through 2005) of a downward trend. [Note: to see this better, click my graph link above for the full-screen view.] The graph shows the percentage of 8th grade students in a particular year that stayed in the B-R System and attended 9th grade at B-R High the next year. For instance, the last year shown of 2007 places a mark at about 81.67% -- meaning that 81.67 percent of 8th graders in 2007 are 9th graders in 2008. I think I can speak for the School District in saying that we are all pleased and encouraged by the upward swing for the past couple of years - bringing the percentage back above 80%. |
