February 6, A look at local voting in yesterday's Presidential Primaries

On the Democrat side, the endorsements by Gov. Deval Patrick and Senators Kennedy and Kerry appeared to be an albatross for Barack Obama – with the State decidedly supporting Hillary Clinton by a 56% to 41% (for Obama) margin.
On the Republican side, former MA Governor Mitt Romney won the State.  While John McCain was reasonably close (losing 51% to 41%), Mike Huckabee was a very distant third (at 4%).
A closer look at local communities shows that with the exception of West Bridgewater slightly in favor of John McCain over Mitt Romney, the results were fairly consistent.  Interestingly, Mitt Romney’s vote count within the Republican Primary, even with fewer overall voters, surpassed Barack Obama’s count in East Bridgewater and Raynham.  The following chart shows vote counts for each candidate for selected communities, and the latest estimate of delegate counts.  For the US Delegate Count, these are estimates; for the Democrat Party 2025 are needed and for the Republican Party 1191 are needed for the nomination.

Town              Huckabee  McCain  Romney   *   Clinton  Obama
