October 24, Update on issues from Bridgewater-Raynham School Committee Meeting

The meeting stretched to nearly four hours; the following summarizes some of the action & review:
A) Presentation of High School Library Book Program - where people can donate money and dedicate a book
B) Pre-school Tuition Update: Effective 2/5/08 the rate will be $14/day; effective 7/1/08 the rate will be $18/day
C) Music & band in Middle Schools - previously band was offered to a small group of students; it was believed that music should be offered to more students and thus a change in curriculum. Where previously there had been a band instructor (providing sort-of semi-private lessons) there is now a general music teacher providing a program to a larger number of students.  Band is now (or about to) offered as an after-school program.
D) Report on the October 2 student incident while on a Field Trip (more info coming soon here)
E) Discussion of the Actions of the Bridgewater Selectmen, by a 3-1 vote, to move forward with an Article to deregionalize PreK-grade 8.
F) Approval of one Robotics Team same-day trip to NH for a competition.  An hour of discussion and debate approved by a 6-2 vote (Joe Gillis & Ron Pacy aginst) a 10-day trip to Italy next April.
