| August 21, Thoughts from last night's Town Meeting (and tonight's Selectmens Meeting) First off, a well-run meeting last night in a brand new building. Many people put in lots of hours to make the meeting a reality: the High School Building Committee, David Moore for quickly approving building usage last Friday afternoon, the B-R facilities/custodial crew, B-R football players and Town employees for setting up tables & chairs, Jeff Fowler and the BTV cable crew for all of the sound and video work and Greg Lee for keeping what could have been a very difficult meeting under control. And the two people who did the work to make the presentation a reality -- Carlton Hunt and Fire Chief George Rogers. No doubt others helped to put the program together, but from the pulling together of information, working to try out how to display a presentation in a very large room, the changes in formats needed to display on a large wall, up through the final presentation on the wall, these two individuals were key to the orderly explanation of the night. From the Selectmens Meeting... I ask... if a tree falls in a forest and no one knows about it, did it really happen? The Selectmen expressed shock that no one was there for Public Forum. Well, considering there has not been one in months, and the Agenda for the meeting was not on-line... how would anyone know that the Selectmen would suddenly allow a chance for the public to speak? At the B-R School Committee meeting tomorrow night, as always, there will be Public Forum on the agenda. [Note that I did see the Agenda published on the Town website on the evening of the 22nd, it was not present on the 21st. Checking the file properties of the agenda show that it was created on 8/22 at 10:51 am - 16 hours after the Meeting.] |
