July 21, Bridgewater-Raynham Schools and upcoming actions

The B-R School Committee at its meeting this week (7/18/07) re-emphasized its support and commitment to the $55.7M budget as certified and submitted at it June 21st meeting.  Note: this recertified number is less than the orginal $55.9M budget - after recalculating for State Aid and other changes, Bridgewater's assessment is the same while Raynham's is reduced by about $80k.  There are some pretty involved formulas for required local school spending that contributed to this anamoly - I will detail for anyone interested.
So, both towns have meetings on Monday July 30th to address issues related to B-R.  In Raynham, one article will address the difference in town assessments and another will consider the possible gift/grant of positions.  In Bridgewater, the matter of accepting by YES/NO vote the June 20th vote of the B-R School Committee.
Should the matter pass in Bridgewater, I would anticipate seeing another override proposal (several Selectmen have already indicated this as a direction).  Rather than the $2.9M previous request, I would anticipate a reduced dollar amount.  For instance, a $2.2M override with a tax impact of about $312 per average home-owner.  (Compared to the previous $2.9M override and a $407 impact to the average home-owner.)
For those who thought the town and schools would not experience any changes after the failed override, the school has laid off teachers and educational assistants as previously noted.  And, the Town now has reduced services for the community as evidences by staff reductions in many areas --  Senior Center, Highway Dept, Town Clerk's Office, Treasurer's Office, Inspector's Offices, and on and on.  There are reduced hours and complete days (Friday) where townspeople can no longer receive services in certain departments.
