Unlike past years with more than $100M in line-item vetoes, Governor Patrick was easy on his red pen yesterday, only striking $40.7M from the $26.8B overall budget. This respresent 0.15% of all spending.

Judicious use of the veto is a useful tool in requiring the Legislature to justify each spending program.
