April 25, Bridgewater Board of Selectmen adjust appropriation for B-R to $18M

At last night's Board of Selectmen Meeting, there was movement in the appropriation to Bridgewater-Raynham Schools.  In a 3-1-1 vote, approximately $900k was added.  Those voting in favor were Herb Lemon, Dennis Gallagher and Mark Oliari; against was Marybeth Lawton; abstaining was Stanley Kravitz.
The new number matches Bridgewater's Advisory Board budget allocation of $18,003,685.  This is the often referred to "Budget #2" that has been discussed, and roughly equates to the proportionate funding level from both Raynham's Selectmen and Finance Boards.  Budget #2 is $2.516M less than Budget #1 -- the only budget officially voted and submitted by the B-R School District.
For Bridgewater to accomplish this increase, $350k will be temporarily removed (as in past years) from the Town Insurance allocation and about $500k from general government accounts.  In past years, once 'Free Cash' is determined it will be used to re-fund the full Town insurance account.
Based on the latest State Budget numbers... In total, Bridgewater's line item for B-R would increase by $1.235M ($18.003M vs. $16.768M, 7.37%), and this would equate to a Raynham increase of $889k ($11.445M vs. $10.556M, 8.42%).  An interesting note to the increases is that the State's Required Net School Spending formulas had calculated for large municipal increases: Bridgewater by $1.079M and Raynham by $791k.
