| January 17, New leadership for MA State Republican Party
A meeting and vote was to occur a couple weeks back, just prior to the new Governor's Inauguration, but ended up being rescheduled to January 16th after questions of notice. The meeting chose former U.S. Rep. Peter Torkildsen to be the new Chair of the State Republican Party. He suceeds Darrell Crate in this role. Darrell Crate presided over the State Republican Party through a period that saw the loss of the governor's office, and further erosion of membership in the MA House (now 19 of 160) and MA Senate (now 5 of 40). Peter Torkildsen is a former representative to the MA House (1985-1991) and U.S. Representative (1993-1997). Most recently, Peter has been Executive Director of the Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board. As a Republican in the community, I am interested in hearing more from Peter on how he plans to rebuild the State Republican Party. |
