You can do something!
November 14,  Finally a good reason to keep tolls on the Mass Turnpike

A story on Boston.com describes how two unions are fighting the elimination of tolls on the Mass Turnpike.
Bob Cullinane, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Union Local 127, called the plan a fiscal "dereliction of duty" while Donna Blythe-Shaw, staff representative of the United Steelworkers of America District 4, said the move could ultimately cost more than 500 union jobs, including an initial 200 toll collectors.
"If they go ahead, they're going to hear from us and we're going to use every legal tactic at our disposal," Blythe-Shaw said in a statement Tuesday.

It now makes sense to me -- we need the tolls, and traffic jams at tollbooths, and air pollution because of slow & idling vehicles .. all so that we can keep individuals employed as toll collectors.  I do not want anyone to be processed-out of a job.  But, is the purpose of the Mass Turnpike tolls just a way to keep people employed?
