| October 26, Another community recognizes caution required with override discussions
As we have discussed prior, elected officials need to be extremely cautious in what we say and the means we use to deliver it. While there may be a desire to lobby for or against an override in public settings, but this is not allowed. The following news piece is from WATD-FM (95.9): Marshfield Gets Ready for Override Question The rules are on the table. Last night, the State office of Political and Campaign Finance held a meeting in Marshfield for town officials and residents to ask questions regarding the proposition 2 ½ override question. It will be on next springs’ ballot. Dennis Kennedy is the office’s public information officer and says public employees or officials cannot use public property to promote any position on the question, but they do have some liberties, they can express whether they support it or not. There are penalties for those who break the rules, they may be required to pay money back that is used inappropriately. He stressed that public employees can advocate either way on the ballot question, just not on public time or using public resources. |
