| September 20, Bridgewater-Raynham School Committee before Bridgewater Selectmen
The B-R School Committee (Don Delutis, Fred Kern, Gordon Luciano & Joseph Gillis) and Superintendent Bob McIntyre went before the Bridgewater Board of Selectmen for a Special Meeting this evening. The purpose was for the School District to present details of the $1.965M in extra funds requested for the new Regional High School project. After about an hour of discussions, the Bridgewater Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to call a Special Town Meeting on October 5th at 7:30pm (B-R High School) for the Article to be brought before the Town for review and vote. The Board then by a 3-2 vote (Herb Lemon, Dennis Gallagher and Stanley Kravitz in favor; Marybeth Lawton and Mark Oliari against) to call a Special Election for the debt over-ride question. Rules of the law for debt votes require 2/3 (four members when a five member board) to vote to call for a ballot vote. Therefore, no Special Election date was called. Without an Election ballot vote, a debt exclusion cannot occur. So, this is a confusing vote by the Selectmen. The Selectmen voted to call the Special Town Meeting to discuss and vote on the over-ride, but without calling for a ballot the funds cannot be authorized. So, off to a Special Town Meeting on October 5th, and then ??? |
