| June 8, Much ado about vountary local tax payments doesn't amount to much
At Bridgewater's Town Meeting last year (5/2/2005), Articles 20 and 21 created mechanisms for Bridgewater residents to pay extra property taxes, and have it go to one of three areas. At the Board of Selectmen Meeting earlier this week, an announcement was made about the results: Scholarship = $97.00 Education = $978.47 Special Tax Aid = $306.03 A grand total of $1,381.50 was collected. This kind of puts into perspective the desire by the citizens of Bridgewater to pay more taxes. In 2004, when the last over-ride was discussed and voted, many in town spoke of how they were willing to pay more in taxes to support the town and specifically education. However, from these reported results, it does not appear that many of these individuals stepped forward to pay more in local property taxes. |
