| June 4, Thumbs-Up to the Bridgewater-Raynham School Committee from The Enterprise
The Enterprise, June 4, 2006 Thumbs up! To Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District for joining the growing number of districts adopting School Choice, a program that allows schools to accept children from outside the district. The School Committee voted unanimously Wednesday night to allow no more than 30 students into the district starting in the fall as part of a trial run as the district considers opening itself up to the program once the district's $100 million school construction, renovation and repair projects are complete. The cash-strapped district admitted that the $5,000 it will receive for each student played a part in its decision, especially since it has lost 84 students to school choice and charter schools, resulting in B-R sending $583,000 in tuition to other schools. When a student leaves the district, their state aid goes with them. |
