December 16, Problems with bus service this morning - causing delayed opening

The following notice has been released to the press, and is available on the district website:

The Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District apologizes for the unexpected delay of school buses this morning, Friday, December 16th.  The bus company, Laidlaw Education Services, did not contact our administration until 6:45 a.m. that the buses located in their Bridgewater lot were unable to leave the lot due to icing problems.  Buses housed off-site were already proceeding with their routes.  Many High School students were already in route to school. At that time, it was too late to delay high school opening.
TV and radio stations were notified starting at 7:00 a.m. that there would be a two-hour delayed opening for K-8 students.  The purpose of the delay was to attempt to prevent elementary and middle school students from waiting outdoors.  Laidlaw had indicated that a two-hour delay would provide them the necessary time to have the bus lot issue resolved.  In addition, to the media notification, building administrators attempted to contact the parents of kindergarten students by phone.
Laidlaw representatives have taken full responsibility for the late notification and we are speaking with them to assure this does not happen in the future.  Again, our apologies to the parents, staff and especially students for this morning’s situation.
