September 8, Interesting times in Attleboro Schools... found money!
The city's cash-strapped school department, which cut more than 80 jobs last year to quell a budget crisis, actually ended fiscal 2005 flush with $1.47 million in leftover funds. The money, which will be rolled over into the current fiscal year, includes $886,000 allocated to pay health insurance and Medicare appropriations for teachers who actually were laid off, according to a city auditor's report. `` All I can say is it was an oversight on our part,'' Superintendent Joel Lovering said. More information can be found by reading the Sept. 7th Sun Chronicle newspaper. Word forwarded to me indicates that the School Committee will be meeting on Tuesday Sept. 13th, 7pm, at Attleboro High School to possibly address the situation. |
