| August 19, Long Term Trends in Enrollment at Bridgewater-Raynham
There have been a number of articles in the press, as well as much discussion lately related to the number of students leaving the B-R System - especially after grade 8. The State's Dept of Ed has a web page that tracks this. (Tracking for K-3, Grade 4-6, Grade 7-9, Grade 10-12) Since FY1995 (first year of full regionalization), total K-12 enrollment has grown from 5316 students to 5861. The high was 6035 students in 2003; therefore, B-R current enrollment is about 2.9% less than its peak. With an additional facility - the 2000 student high school - increasing overall student capacity, there may be quite a bit of excess space soon. Perhaps taking the lead of other school districts, we may opt to become a School Choice District - accepting certain numbers of students in specific grades. Or, perhaps we will enter a collaborative agreement with another school/town system to accept (Berkley ?) some of their students for a set period of time. |
