| July 22, Upcoming Tax-Free weekend in Massachusetts (almost set...) Rather than a single tax-free day in Massachusetts (like last year), the State House and Senate have approved a bill that would make the entire weekend of August 13 & 14 tax free. There was some concern for businesses that close on Saturdays for religious reasons. It is estimated that instead of a $10M loss of sales tax, the combined weekend will result in the loss of $15M in sales tax. If the Legislature in this State is interested in eliminating taxes, how about they start with the income tax that the State voted to reduce to 5.0% years ago. The Legislature disregarded the will of the people, and have frozen this at 5.3%. Enough with stunts like tax-free days -- listen to the public that overwhelmingly supported the roll-back of income taxes, and leave a little more of our money in every citizens's paycheck every week. |
