| May 18, Operational Proposition 2 1/2 Over-rides voted down in town after town
I was at a meeting with others who are involved with schools (I do not want to embarass the individual who made the statement), but this one individual made a statement to the group that "...the tide was changing and towns have recently voted to support Prop 2 1/2 over-rides for more money to schools". In addition to Easton (which I wrote about earlier), this spring has also seen proposals in Halifax, Abington, Rockland, Scituate, Braintree, Norwell and Plymouth. All seven were voted down at the ballot. Yes, they may have passed at Town Meeting, but the critical step of coming before the entire town at the ballot turned every proposal down. I would be interested in hearing of any that have actually passed at the ballot. I have not found any. Town Meeting and Town Elections appear to draw much different crowds. Consistently, residents in all of these communities have sent a clear message to live within the means of the revenue stream. |
