April 25, A few surprises in the Town Elections of this past Saturday - April 23rd

In Bridgewater, Mark Oliari captured the Board of Selectmen seat vacated by Allan Chiocca, overcoming two challengers - Ron Pacy and Butch Mulligan.  Ricky Ellis was re-elected to serve as Tree Warden.  And the CPA (Community Preservation Act) was passed.
For Bridgewater and Raynham, on the B-R School Committee, Gordon Luciano bested Bill Nickerson for that contested race.  In Bridgewater, Fred Kern was elected; in Raynham, Stephen Donahue was elected -- both running unopposed.
In Raynham, the other contested election was between Christopher Bodensieck and Joseph Pacheco, running for Park and Recreation Commissioner.  Christopher was victorious in a close election.  The ballot question for the CPA failed in Raynham
Congratulations to all of the candidates who came forward to run for office.

The CPA issue is especially interesting.  In Bridgewater, the voters came forward to support the proposal and make an investment in the future of the community.  But in Raynham, a community that is often said to be better off financially, the community voted the measure down.  Perhaps this is because Raynham is in good financial shape based on the business tax income?  Perhaps it could be related to the proposal being for 2% in Bridgewater vs. 3% in Raynham.  At any rate, it is intriguing that one community passes while the neighbor does not.
