| July 12, Interesting story in today's Boston Globe about property taxes and Education The story centered on the community of Barnstable, and the belief that municipalities having to generate the funds necessary for education form property tax is unfair. If you can find the story, I recommend reading it. (Click here to read the story.) However, an interesting fact from the story was the fact that the state median property tax bill for a single family house in the Commonwealth is $2971. On 12/31/2002, the median single family house in Bridgewater was $276,144. So, with a tax rate of $11.33/k, the computation for Bridgewater works out to $3,129 in taxes. So, a single family house in Bridgewater is paying more than the state average in property taxes. Another reason to vote NO on July 31st. |
