| June 8, Contract for next Superintendent is in the paper Let me start off by saying that I only know as much as you the reader on this one. Even though I am a member of the B-R School Committee, I only became aware of the compensation package based on what was reported in The Enterprise. While some may be concerned about the $130k starting salary (similar to what Brockton's School Chief makes), I am more concerned about the tone set by the vacation and sick time provisions. The Superintendent is the Chief of the schools, and for that person to have in his contract a 50% buyback on sick time is plain wrong on so many levels. In any ecomic situation, this would be a bad decision. But, especially now, this sets the wrong example on how to maintain cost controls. Update: 7/1/04, I still have never seen this contract. Even after asking twice. |
