| March 16, Business as Usual in Choices Made By B-R "People in power find creative ways to do business with their friends; their willingness to do so does perpetuates business as usual. Breaking the pattern requires a fresh outlook about who else can provide the services and what it takes to hire them." That quote is not referring to the B-R School Committee, but was by Joan Vennochi in the March 16th 'Boston Globe' in reference to the selection process for the upcoming political convention in Boston. Her thoughts, though, do accurately reflect the process our School Committee has taken when making selections: Project Manager, next Superintendent, or members of Building Committees. These processes should be open, inclusive, and inviting to the members of the community. Instead, we have been left with pre-determined conclusions. Should we believe that Brockton is wrong in its process to find their next Superintendent? Their mayor has made appeals to the public to become involved in the process - to provide their thoughts, concerns, goals for the future. When B-R made the quick choice, appointing someone who had not even applied for the posistion (Ursula's words at that School Comm Meeting), they continued in the Business As Usual process. |
