| September 7, Selectmen Meeting vs. Staff Meeting Once again, the Selectmen chose to conduct important business that concerns everyone in town during their Staff Meeting. The discussion and vote on whether to solicit appraisals on the Academy Building and the McElwain School Building is a pretty major issue as far as I am concerned. Issues such as this deserve to be conducted during the Selectmen's Meeting, as it is this meeting that is recorded and televised on BTV, and is covered by most of the area's newspapers. By contrast, the Staff Meeting typically receives little coverage. If the Selectmen continue to choose to put major issues on the agenda of the Staff Meeting (albeit, it is also an open and published meeting), then the unintended consequence may be more scrutiny and coverage of this meeting. |
