School Committee, and the Williams Project costs:

Prior to Bridgewater going to the ballot in April, the B-R School Committee assured the voters of Bridgewater that they would only spend $5M on a reworked plan for WIlliams.  This was based on information, at that time, that the State would only fund one project per town.  And, the School Committee wanted that project to be the New "City" High School.
Bridgewater voters went to the ballot, and authorized the $26.7M question with that assurance - $1.7M for the Bridgewater Elementary School, and $5M for major repairs to the Williams.  The ballot question passed with that assurance on spending.
Now, the School Committee appears ready to commit to the full $25M project.  We did authorize the spending, however there clearly was an understanding that the School Comittee would only spend the $5M discussed.  I believe that if the School Committee goes forward with the $25M project, they have intentionally misled the public, and I urge everyone to make their concerns known to the School Committee.
[At the Aug 13th School Comm. Meeting, it was determined by the Comm. to move forward with a $25M project, although with a different plan for demolition and construction.]
The current plan is for the facility to continue to be partially used until September of 2006.  So, Bridgewater students can look forward to three years of over-crowding at BES and attending school at the Parish Center - all rather than share in the new Raynham Middle School facility just recently opened by our "partner" town in the school system.
